Possibly you haven’t spoken to a friend in a while. You’ve caught yourself thinking of them now and then, and you know you should call, but you haven’t gotten around to it. Cultivate that friendship today, pick up the phone and call them to say hello and check in on them. Instead of putting off the call for another day, or absentmindedly texting them, invest in the effort to phone them now. Honor the importance of your relationships.(Daily practices and inspiration for caring for yourself, Dr. Zoe Shaw)
Nothing can replace face-to-face conversation but knowing how to text in a relationship like friend, partner, spouse means you’ll be able to communicate effectively and show your special someone the respect they deserve, from one phone to another. If we are verbally or mentally accusing, berating, or criticizing in any way, we are attracting undesirably. If we are feeling trapped, ignored, or neglected, unsafe, misunderstood, or shortchanged, we are attracting undesirably. If we are race in to please, rescue, we are attracting undesirably.
The key to excellent relationships with others is quite simple, make them feel important. When you look at other people and give them a genuine smile, they feel happier about themselves. Their self-esteem goes up. They feel more valuable and important. Perhaps the most powerful way to raise another person’s self-respect is to listen to him attentively when he speaks. About anything, whether it be directly or indirectly. Never do or say anything that lowers a person’s self-assurance or makes him feel less important or valuable. Never say anything about a person that you would not say to his face. The most harmful force in all human relationships is destructive criticism. It lowers a person’s self-worth, makes him feel angry and defensive, and causes him to dislike the source. When you treat a person with courtesy and respect, he or she feels more appreciated and imperative. As a result of making a person feel more valuable and respected, that person will in turn value and respect you even more as well.
